Selam Getnet: Leading with Vision and Dedication
Selam Getnet serves as the Executive Director of SAWE, bringing over 15 years of expertise in community development and women's empowerment. Before joining SAWE, she worked with various international organizations, spearheading initiatives focused on gender equality, sustainable development, and community resilience. Selam holds a Master’s degree in International Development from Addis Ababa University and has been recognized with numerous awards for her impactful contributions to community development. She is deeply committed to creating sustainable solutions that empower communities to lead their own development.
Selam Getnet is a visionary leader within an international organization, where she plays a pivotal role in driving sustainable development initiatives that span multiple sectors, including real estate, agriculture, and business. In the realm of real estate, Selam is dedicated to enhancing urban living by spearheading projects that not only promote economic growth but also prioritize community welfare and environmental sustainability. Her commitment extends to the agricultural sector, where she collaborates with poultry farms to bolster food security and stimulate local economies, creating job opportunities and empowering farmers. Additionally, Selam is a staunch advocate for women's empowerment; she founded a non-governmental organization (NGO) aimed at providing women with the training, resources, and support necessary to achieve financial independence and assume leadership roles within their communities. Through her multifaceted work, Selam embodies a profound dedication to social impact and community development, inspiring others to join her mission of fostering positive change and uplifting marginalized voices.
“I believe that lasting change comes from within communities,” Selam says. “Our role is to support and facilitate, but the vision and leadership must come from the communities themselves.”
Under Selam’s leadership, SAWE has expanded its reach, strengthened partnerships with local and international organizations, and amplified its impact across Ethiopia. Her leadership continues to drive transformative change, fostering resilient and empowered communities.
